Waco WPA has 113 acres of mixed marsh habitat and 46 acres of upland habitat. Recent renovation work makes the future look good for this site. It could become one of the better overall sites in the region. Recently a large water concentration pit was filled by putting the same soil back into the pit. With the pit restoration, much of the reed canarygrass, which had been choking out all the other wetland plants, was dug up and deposited in the pit. The wetland basin is now deeper, making it very difficult for canarygrass to re-establish. Waco Basin Waterfowl Production Area adjoins Spikerush Wildlife Management Area.
