The Double R Guest Ranch is a 5,000 acre private Sandhills ranch in secluded Cherry County. The ranch encompasses several habitat types including Sandhills prairies, sand blowouts, wet meadows, marshes, bogs, and fens. Three spring-fed lakes may also be found on the ranch. Birds of particular interest that may be found here include Long-billed Curlew, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Sharp-tailed Grouse, Greater Prairie Chicken, White Pelican, and other waterbirds. It may be possible to observe a pair of Trumpeter Swans in summer.
The Double R Guest Ranch is located 19 miles north of Mullen on Hwy 97, or 60 miles south of Valentine on Hwy 97. From Mullen, drive to mile marker 85, and turn east on the first gravel road. Drive 1.75 miles east and you will see a lake to the north and a little red school house. Beyond that turn north (left) where you will see the ranch sign, mail box, and a lane leading to our house. Lodging is available on-site. A number of other recreational activities such as horseback riding (bring your own horses or ride ours – extra fee) and canoeing are also available.
